Our Evolution

A short summary highlighting when it all began for gategroup with a few watershed moments that got us where we are today.

gategroup acquires Inflight Service Group to further expand its leadership position in Buy on Board services. Chinese conglomerate HNA Group makes an all cash public tender offer for gategroup which is settled in December. With the new ownership, a new Board of Directors assumes office with Adam Tan, CEO of HNA, as Chairman.

Xavier Rossinyol appointed gategroup CEO. Gateway 2020 strategy launched for increased focus and simplification. Realignment of business, with Airline Solutions and Network and Product Solutions (formerly Product and Supply Chain Solutions) integrated into four geographic regions. New composition of gategroup Executive Management Board consisting of five officers: CEO, CFO, President Americas & EMEA, President Asia Pacific, Chief Commercial Officer

gategroup appoints Customer Dedicated Executive Chefs to drive development of capabilities in culinary excellence, menu design, and innovation. Airline Solutions business placed under a single focused global management team. Operational excellence program gateOPEX deployed in more than 50% of gategroup's global catering operations.

gategroup expands presence in Oceania by integrating Australian Qantas Catering assets and taking on business activities of Pacific Flight Catering in New Zealand. World’s first operational electrically-powered highloader presented by Gategroup. Group Culinary Organization formally established to make optimum use of continuous improvement and total cost management structures.

gategroup realigns its extensive global services and product lines into two major businesses: Airline Solutions and Product and Supply Chain Solutions. New brand Gate Retail Onboard established providing entire spectrum of onboard sales management. Economic weakness in the Euro zone addressed with a restructuring program.

Andrew Gibson appointed CEO of gategroup. Global gateOPEX program launched for catering operations to drive sustainable cost, quality, reliability and safety improvements. Gategroup commits to a culture of “performing for value” introducing the shared values Excellence, Integrity, Passion and Accountability.

The beginning of a period of steady growth with acquisitions in Europe, Latin America, Asia and the US

Gate Gourmet's size doubles with the acquisition of SAS Service Partners and it becomes the third largest airline catering company worldwide

Gate Gourmet International is founded through a merger of ICS International Catering Services, a subsidary of Swissair Associated Companies (SAC) and Swissair's catering operations in Zurich and Geneva
