Our performance objectives establish what we need to achieve, our values set the standard for how we achieve these and our people are who we depend on to deliver the “what” and the “how”.
So, in order to grow gategroup, we must grow our people. We believe that learning is an everyday occurrence. That's why we build development opportunities into our core practices:
Employees are encouraged to share their career aspirations with their managers and to visit our intranet to find new opportunities at gategroup. gategroup is located in 35 countries so, your next job could be almost anywhere in the world.
Launched in 2011, gateOPEX was initiated as a way to build bench strength and capitalize on best practices. It is built around three basic and interlinked principles: People Development, Operational Deployment and Infrastructure Management. Our goal is to empower our people by providing them with the knowledge, tools and feedback they need to do their best work.
Performance Appraisals and Planning
Feedback and coaching are essential to our annual Performance Appraisals and Planning cycle, encouraging both performance and development discussions. On-the-job training, new assignments and projects are frequently part of employees’ stretch objectives.
Our global senior management team regularly participates in programs that focus on:
- Translating Strategy to Results
- Managing Change

Development opportunities at gategroup are what you make of it, as Cameron, a Performance and Administration Manager at Gate Gourmet in Sydney has experienced.
“I joined Gate Gourmet in 2011 in Adelaide. My first job was as a Packer before becoming an Offsider in early 2012. I had recently completed my degree and while working in Adelaide I saw an internal position advertised on the noticeboard for a Safety Systems Coordinator based in Sydney. I was successful in my application and by July 2012 I was working in the Risk and Compliance Department in Sydney.
In June 2013 I worked closely with the Sydney operation to develop some new reporting methods to help track key performance indicators. Shortly after completing this work I was seconded into the role of Performance and Administration Manager for the Sydney operation, where I worked with a team improving processes and delivering meaningful information to the Sydney management. I was lucky to work with a number of people whose dedication to their jobs is truly admirable.
On completing this secondment I was delighted to be appointed to the role of Business Improvement Analyst in January 2014, reporting to the OPEX Director. This new role is the first of its type in Oceania and is filled with exciting possibilities. Gate Gourmet has given me enormous opportunities for career growth and learning. I could never have imagined the journey I was going to take way back in 2011!”
